Applications

"We offer azo initiators such as Perkadox AIBN (azobisisobutyronitrile) and Perkadox AMBN (2-methylbutyronitrile) for the bulk, solution, suspension, and emulsion polymerization of various monomers like styrene, vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride, acrylonitrile, acrylates, and methacrylates. Our most commonly used initiator is AIBN, but our AMBN offers better solubility than AIBN. Advantages of AIBN initiators: Azo initiators have many advantages over standard organic peroxides, such as they do not form oxygenated by-products and have low yellowing. Azo initiators only produce carbon-centered radicals, which are low in energy, highly selective, and result in little branching. This provides low polydispersity index (PDI) values and molecular weights. Perkadox AIBN does not form oxygenated residues and does not cause oxidative degradation to colored or dyed polymer systems. Therefore, the color stability of transparent, colored polymers (like polymethyl methacrylate) is improved. AIBN and other azo initiators provide excellent color stability in transparent colored polymers (like PMMA). They do not form oxygenated residues and do not cause oxidative degradation to colored or dyed systems. Compared to organic peroxides, azo initiators can avoid excessive grafting, making them particularly suitable for manufacturing acrylic cast and molded sheets, as well as adhesives, acrylic fibers, superabsorbent resins, detergents, and flocculants. Our most commonly used initiator is AIBN, but our AMBN offers better solubility than AIBN. Perkadox AIBN can also be used in pharmaceutical and fine organic synthesis. Our Trigonox 421 offers similar technical performance and is a sustainable alternative to AIBN. Another advantage of Trigonox 421 is that all its decomposition products are non-toxic, in contrast to AIBN which forms toxic TMSN."
